Magic Vibes - Taste of Chinese Culture and Language

Join the Confucious Institute for an immersive journey into Chinese heritage, featuring captivating experiences showcasing calligraphy, traditional music, Chinese language, and regional dress. Delight in the elegance of ancient art forms and the vibrancy of contemporary culture. Come discover the grandeur of China's past and present, leaving with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for its rich heritage.

Activities

Activities: All activities run concurrently and will take place in the Boole Library Social Space on the ground floor. 

  1. Traditional Handcrafts:
    • Chinese Paper Cutting: Discover the art of intricate designs and patterns cut from paper

    • Chinese Knotting: Learn the ancient craft of creating decorative knots symbolising good luck and prosperity

    • Lantern Making: Create beautiful and colourful lanterns, a traditional symbol in Chinese culture.

  2. Chinese Calligraphy:
    • Experience the elegance and discipline of Chinese calligraphy. Have your Chinese name written in ancient calligraphy styles by skilled instructors.
  3. Tea Ceremony:
    • Participate in a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Learn about the history, techniques, and cultural significance of tea in Chinese culture.
  4. Traditional Games:
    • Wǔzǐqí: Challenge yourself with this classic Chinese board game, also known as Gomoku or Five in a Row.

    • Tóu hú: Try your hand at this ancient Chinese pitch-pot game, which involves throwing arrows into a pot.

Special Offer: Participants who complete at least three activities will receive a special Chinese gift.

Join us for an evening of cultural exploration and hands-on activities. Experience the rich traditions of Chinese culture, and enjoy a night of learning and fun at the UCC Confucius Institute.
