Avoid Plagiarism: Citing and Referencing Sources In-Person
This workshop will introduce you to the key concepts of citing, referencing and plagiarism that must be applied in assignments and research. We will discuss the importance of using citations and references to give credit to the sources that you use, in order to avoid plagiarism. Additionally, we will cover using appropriate citation conventions, and how you can maintain integrity when referring to different types of sources.
This session is open to all UCC members - registration is required.
Directions: The Research Skills Teaching Room is on Floor Q-1 (the basement level) of the Boole Library. If you go through the double doors to the left of the Security Desk near the library entrance, and then down the stairs, the room is a short way along the corridor on your left.
Important - Here are some steps you must complete before you attend:
1. Please connect any smartphones/iPhones/laptops/other devices you have to the university's Wi-Fi network 'eduroam'. This will be needed to authenticate yourself when accessing Library resources in the session. Guidance on connecting to 'eduroam' is available from the Boole or Brookfield Libraries.
2a. Please install and register the Microsoft Authenticator app on your smartphone or iPhone with your UCC email address. There will be very limited or no phone signal available, so you will need the app to log into Library resources during the session's activities i.e. you won’t be able to complete MFA via text message or voice call.
2b. Once the app is installed and registered, please also go into its Update security info section and change the Default sign-in method to “App-based authentication – notification.” Full instructions are available via the UCC website: https://www.ucc.ie/en/it/services/mfa/, and you may contact Student IT for further assistance: https://www.ucc.ie/en/sit/
