Advanced Searching Techniques for Systematic Reviews In-Person

This workshop is designed to equip researchers involved in systematic reviews with advanced skills in searching techniques to ensure a systematic search of the literature is undertaken for their evidence synthesis project. A systematic search is an essential component of a successful systematic review.

Along with instruction and demonstration from librarians, participants will engage in practical exercises and group discussions to enhance their understanding of searching techniques.


This class will cover :

  • Undertaking scoping searches
  • Developing a search strategy using Boolean operators
  • Documenting and reporting a systematic search strategy
  • Using search filters / hedges
  • Translating a search strategy across different databases
  • Testing a search strategy
  • Supplementary searches including citation searching

Participants should bring their own laptops, or borrow a laptop from the Library on the day. Note: If you bring your own, please ensure that you connect it to the 'eduroam' Wi-Fi network before the session.
