Open Access, Transformative Agreements and IReL Online

The key aim of Open Access to scholarly literature is to make publications free to all, democratising  access to our scholarly outputs and increasing visibility and impact. Many research funding organisations now either require Open Access publications within there own polices or have signed up to Plan S.

In UCC the home of Open Access is UCC Library. During this seminar you will hear from the experts who manage our Open Access Repository CORA and through the Irish Research eLibrary(IReL) have negotiated open access agreements with publishers also known as Tranformative Agreements.

CORA is University College Cork's online, open access institutional repository, established by UCC Library to collect, store and disseminate the digital research output of the UCC scholarly community. CORA gives you free open access to University College Cork's scholarly and scientific research publications and theses. We will hear about how the repository works and how you can archive your publications in CORA.

The IReL is a nationally funded electronic research library. UCC Library is a member of the IReL consortium part of its remit is to secure open access or transformative agreements with publishers. 'Transformative Agreements' typically allow corresponding authors from eligible institutions to publish their articles open access immediately on publication. We will hear about the process developed in UCC Library to facilitate these agreements and progress on implementation to date.

Requirements on Open Access to publications are still a relatively recent feature in the research landscape. We hope you will join us for this informal session to meet the people providing access to the infrastructure and negotiating agreements so that next time you have a question or a publication to make OA you will know where to go.
