Artificial Intelligence for Information Searching In-Person
The aim of the session will be to explore how large language model (LLM) tools like ChatGPT might be used as part of the information search process. The session will include discussion, demonstrations and hands-on exercises, and consideration of appropriate use of artificial intelligence (AI) and critical appraisal.
Intended audience: UCC students with little to no experience in AI
Directions: The Research Skills Teaching Room is on floor Q-1 of the Boole Library. If you go through the double doors to the left of the Security Desk near the library entrance, and then down the stairs, the room is a short way along the corridor on your left.
Important: You will need to complete the following steps before you arrive at the session:
- Ensure that any devices you bring with you (phones, laptops, iPads, etc) are connected to the eduroam WiFi network
- Install and register the Microsoft Authenticator app on your smartphone/iphone; then go into the Update security info section in your account on the App, and select “App-based authentication – notification” as the Default sign-in method
Learning Objectives
On completing the session, participants will be able to:
- Describe in simple terms what large language models like ChatGPT are and how they work
- Describe some of the potential uses, while being conscious of the limitations
- Apply prompts in a structured way to obtain the best information for your need
