FAIR Data Forum In-Person
Please note this is an in person event which will take place in the Boole Library Seminar Room. Directions to the Seminar Room can be found below.
The FAIR Data Forum aims to provide a space in UCC to share FAIR implementation stories, for peer learning and engaging with different perspectives, and to allow for feedback on the current and emerging needs of sustainable engagement with FAIR data sharing.
For this session we will have two brief presenations (15 min each) followed by time for an open discussion. A light lunch and tea and coffee will be available.
Speaker; Dr Brendan Palmer - Data publication – putting the pieces of the puzzle together.
Abstract: In this presentation we will begin with a rectangular csv dataset that has been collected in accordance with the FAIR guiding principles for scientific data management. This supposes that the data does not exist in isolation but rather is accompanied by a metadata file, data dictionary and codebook. We will highlight the within-project actions that are required to ensure post-project data publication is simplified, yet meets the requirements set out by both journals and funders.
Speaker: Dr Fiona Buckley, Department of Government & Politics, UCC.
Title: Research transparency and openness (drawn from an editorial in European Political Science)
Abstract: Reflecting on the importance of research transparency, the challenges that it faces, and offer a few suggestions to encourage and foster a culture of open data.
To get to the seminar room walk past the main library desk and take the next right, at the end of the short corridor go left through the double doors, turn right and through the next set of doors. The seminar room is on your left.
