Some of my best friends use spreadsheets

Some of my best friends use spreadsheets In-Person

Please note this is an in-person event, taking place in the Research Skills Teaching Room, Boole Library Basement

Spreadsheets are widely used across research disciplines, but the software chosen may not always meet the researcher’s needs.

This session focuses on Microsoft Excel, the most commonly used spreadsheet tool included in the Office 365 package available to UCC staff and students. Unlike plain text formats, Excel functions as a rich file type, with built-in structures and features that influence how data is recorded and managed.

We will highlight common issues encountered when using Excel, demonstrate practical solutions and introduce alternative tools more aligned to specific research asks. The session will also provide guidance on simple techniques to improve data quality and strategies to reduce risks when working with MS Excel.

Participants will need access to a laptop during the session. You are welcome to bring your own device; or we have a number of them available to borrow from the RSTR. Note: If you bring your own, please ensure that you connect it to the 'eduroam' Wi-Fi network before the session.
