The Librarians: Film Screening & Post-Screening Discussion In-Person
Join us in UCC Library's Creative Zone on Saturday, November 7th for a special screening of the Emmy Award-winning documentary The Librarians.
Following the screening Oscar-nominated and Emmy and Peabody Award-winning director and producer Kim A. Snyder, and Texas librarian and anti-book-banning advocate Audrey Wilson-Youngblood will be in conversation with UCC University Librarian Liz Jolly.
Synopsis
The Librarians follows a group of librarians who find themselves on the front line of a growing battle over censorship and democracy. As efforts to restrict the freedom to read intensify across the United States, librarians re-affirm their role as guardians of access to knowledge and intellectual freedom.
In Texas, the publication of the "Krause List" targeting hundreds of books dealing with race, gender and LGBTQIA+ themes sparks a wave of book bans that spreads across the country. Through school board meetings, library disputes and personal stories, The Librarians reveals the forces driving these censorship campaigns and the impact they have on communities. Facing harassment, threats, and political pressure, these librarians continue to advocate for the fundamental right of access to knowledge.
