Tracing History and Legacy: The Helen Hooker O'Malley Photographic Archive at UCC Library - Lifelong Learning Festival 2026 In-Person

This event, hosted in the Special Collections and Archives Rare Books Reading Room, will showcase the recently acquired photographic archive of Helen Hooker O’Malley, the first of its kind to enter the collections by a female visual artist. On this occasion you will hear from the artist’s son, Cormac O’Malley, about his mother’s life and work and Barbara Diener, Photographic Collections Librarian at UCC Library, will join O’Malley in conversation. They will discuss Hooker O'Malley’s work in the larger context of Irish Art and Ireland’s History of Photography. This event will offer the opportunity to delve into the Hooker O’Malley archive, as well as view stellar examples from the history of photography, including unique objects like 19th century albums and glass plate negatives, polaroids, stereo cards, and cameras.
