Ink and Imagination: The Art of Handwriting - Lifelong Learning Festival 2026 In-Person

For this event the Special Collections and Archives staff will focus on methods for deciphering handwriting, including considerations around language, spelling, abbreviations, numbers, letter forms, and scripts. They will bring out a selection of material from across the Special Collection and Archives service, including letters, diaries, music scores, and manuscripts, to provide an introduction to paleography, the study of handwriting. Dating from the 16th to 20th century, the items on display will be from a variety of individuals including authors, academics, composers, and scribes. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to participate in handwriting exercises led by Special Collections and Archives staff.
