How to Write a Data Management Plan

How to Write a Data Management Plan In-Person

Please note this is an in-person event, taking place in the Áine Hyland Room, The Hub.

Managing data from the onset of a research project is essential.

During this workshop at the Áine Hyland room in The Hub, Dr Pádraig Mac Aodhgáin of UCC Library will introduce how to create a Data Management Plan (DMP), and the reasons why the plan is an essential requirement for good practice in data management.

A DMP is a formal document that outlines the management and stewardship of data both during a research project, and after the project is completed. It describes the organization, storage, preservation and potential sharing of research outputs and it is an integral part of good research practice. DMP's encompass a wide range of activities, are an enabling tool for FAIR and Open Data and a requirement of many funders.

Whether you have just begun your research or are looking for a refresher, we will discuss how the FAIR Principles are engaged (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability) and how they are integrated with data management plans. We will look at data management examples for different types of data and disciplines, the areas that should be addressed in a DMP, and will consider how to address legal and ethical issues regarding data management.

By the end of this class, you will be able to:

Understand current best practice in data management

Define, interpret and apply the FAIR principles to your data

Utilise a template guide that helps you to prepare and align your research data for ongoing data management
